- Active (+) electrodes go on Fz and Pz.
- Jumper cable connects channel 1 and channel 2 reference (-) inputs.
- One reference electrode go on mastoid bone behind each ear for a total of two reference electrodes.
- Ground goes on Cz.
- Loosely braid electrodes between amplifier and head to reduce artifact.
- Prepare electrodes by filling with EEG paste.
- Clean skin with alcohol as needed.
- Rub Nuprep to clean skin before EEG paste for better contact.
- Apply EEG paste to scalp.
- Place electrode with paste onto prepared scalp and press firmly.
- Clean electrodes by wiping gently with dry tissue. If used frequently, electrodes can be stored by sticking them together and wrapping them in a clean tissue between uses.
For longer periods between sessions, clean away the paste by soaking in distilled water for 10 or 15 minutes before letting dry. Clean only with distilled water. Never use tap water, bottled water, rubbing alcohol, or allow any foreign substance to come into contact with the metal electrode surface other than paste and distilled water.
