Issues with the EEG or Spectral Display
It is most likely the electrodes that are causing these issues. Sometimes electrodes can develop breaks in them but you will still receive a green impedance reading. This is due to the break in the electrode connecting while conducting the impedance reading. If you move the electrodes in a manor that disconnects the break in the electrodes, this can cause irregularities in the EEG and/or Spectral Display. Some issues you may be experiencing include: a flat line in your EEG/Spectral Display, erratic lines in the EEG/Spectral Display, or think fuzzy lines in the EEG/Spectral Display.
Please follow the instructions below to troubleshoot your electrodes:
- Remove the jumper for the test
- Use 5 electrodes
- Put the sensor ends of the electrodes into distilled water (add a tiny bit of paste to the water to make it conductive).
- Check impedance and observe that you get all green lights.
- Run Cygnet in live mode and observe that you get totally flat lines.
- Touch or wiggle each electrode one by one. While the raw trace should deflect a bit from flat, it should not "fuzz-out"
- Find the electrode(s) that are causing the signal to behave wildly on the screen when the wires are touched, and set them aside to be returned if they are within 4 months old, or throw them away if they are older than that
- Replace with brand new sensors and observe that the signal does not deflect as wildly when the sensors are touched.
